Cotopaxi - Back in Business!

Just over 2 years ago, Cotopaxi started an eruption phase that lasted almost 6 months. Since the first eruption, the summit and upper mountain have been closed to climbing. The Ecuadorian government reopened the peak to climbing October 6. Mountain Madness has resumed summit climbs and treks around Cotopaxi and, in fact, are operating our 2nd Cotopaxi expedition since it re-opened.

Ecuador has been blessed with numerous big mountains and we have a long history with all of them. For the foreseeable future we will be shifting our Cotopaxi climbs to Cayambe, Illiniza and Antisana.

Exceptional weather to kick off Ecuador season

The winter Ecuador climbing season was kicked off with a Mountain Madness expedition of Antisana and Illiniza Sur. For those of you who have climbed in Ecuador before, you may have experienced cloudy and stormy conditions on the Ecuadorian volcanoes. However, this team was lucky enough to have views of the avenue of volcanoes from the summit of Illniza Sur and Norte! The clients were strong on both climbs and blown away by the beauty of the region.
