Where Can We Go When the Volcano Blow?

So what do you do when one of your favorite moun­tains starts to erupt? First of all you run away. Quick­ly. Sec­ond­ly, you use anoth­er vol­cano! Recent­ly we have field­ed many inquiries regard­ing whether climb­ing is pos­si­ble in Ecuador since Cotopaxi start­ed being more active. Ecuador has been blessed with numer­ous big moun­tains and we have a long his­to­ry with all of them. For the fore­see­able future we will be shift­ing our Cotopaxi climbs to Cayambe, Illiniza and Anti­sana.

We have a group in Ecuador right now climb­ing the last of four sum­mits on their expe­di­tion. Con­di­tions on Cayambe and Illiniza are out­stand­ing and the climb­ing is great. Clear­ly they are very dis­ap­point­ed by not being able to climb Cotopaxi…

Climb­ing sea­son is just begin­ning in Ecuador and con­di­tions are great. Turns out the erup­tion of Cotopaxi doesn’t lim­it the climb­ing options but in fact focus­es atten­tion on the oth­er out­stand­ing moun­tains of Ecuador.
