Where Can We Go When the Volcano Blow?

So what do you do when one of your favorite mountains starts to erupt? First of all you run away. Quickly. Secondly, you use another volcano! Recently we have fielded many inquiries regarding whether climbing is possible in Ecuador since Cotopaxi started being more active. Ecuador has been blessed with numerous big mountains and we have a long history with all of them. For the foreseeable future we will be shifting our Cotopaxi climbs to Cayambe, Illiniza and Antisana.

We have a group in Ecuador right now climbing the last of four summits on their expedition.  Conditions on Cayambe and Illiniza are outstanding and the climbing is great.  Clearly they are very disappointed by not being able to climb Cotopaxi…

Climbing season is just beginning in Ecuador and conditions are great. Turns out the eruption of Cotopaxi doesn’t limit the climbing options but in fact focuses attention on the other outstanding mountains of Ecuador. Join us this fall and winter playing in this amazing South American Alpine playground!
