Mexico Volcanoes — success on Orizaba and Ixtza

Late Octo­ber found a small MM team on North Amer­i­ca’s third and sev­enth high­est peaks. Great weath­er, good eats, and suc­cess­ful sum­mit climbs made for a great trip. MM climber Ben R. sent in some pho­tos and a sum­ma­ry of the trip.

“I real­ly enjoyed the Mex­i­co Vol­ca­noes trip, which com­bined climb­ing two fan­tas­tic high moun­tains, with some great sight­see­ing of Mex­i­co City, Teoti­huacán, Ame­came­ca, Puebla, and Tlachichu­ca each of which has their own character.

The Mex­i­can Moun­tain Mad­ness guides looked after us superbly from the moment we touched down in Mex­i­co they were always will­ing to help and answer any ques­tions we had. See­ing Mex­i­co in the com­pa­ny of locals is sim­ply the best way to see the coun­try. We were lucky enough to be led on this trip by Hec­tor Ponce de Leon, a famous Mex­i­can moun­taineer with impres­sive climb­ing record. Not only, did keep us safe on the moun­tain, but he kept us wowed with sto­ries from all the var­i­ous climb­ing expe­di­tions he has done. This was a safe, has­sle-free, wor­ry-free, trip that I would strong­ly recommend.”
