Everest Trekkers Dwarfed By The Khumbu Icefall

The pre­car­i­ous Khum­bu Ice­fall is a mov­ing riv­er of ice that shifts and changes every year. Ever­est climbers must cross this most dan­ger­ous obsta­cle each time they ascend from Base Camp.

Trekkers on the Ever­est Base Camp Trek enjoyed some up close and per­son­al time with the leg­endary place.

Imag­ine wear­ing full climb­ing gear, a pack, heavy boots, and crampons…then walk­ing on an alu­minum lad­der laid across a dead­ly crevasse in the ice. We ven­tured down to the very bot­tom edge of the Ice­fall to get some per­spec­tive, and this video shows that even at the small end of the fall, we are dwarfed by the moun­tains of ice.
