Ama Dablam Expedition 11/20/08 dispatch

Hello Mountain Madness, this is Seth calling from Ama Dablam base camp with a two day recap report! We went for the summit on November 19th. We had a big day, and are proud of our efforts!

Around 1200 feet below the summit, we decided to turn back for Camp 2. We fell short of the summit for a few factors, the biggest being weather. High winds, clouds, and snow fall on the surrounding peaks affected our decision to turn back.

It was a hard call to make up there, being so close to the summit but being so far away time wise. But it was important that our team could return back to Camp 2 before dark due to the technical decent route. Everyone on the team feels that we have made the right decision!

The team did get to enjoy the beautiful technical climbing on the route, climbing past Grey Tower and up Mushroom Ridge. Everyone made a safe decent down to Camp 2. On November 20th we descended back down to our base camp. We were greeted by our crew with big smiles; all were really excited to see us back healthy and happy! It really has been a great trip. We are now looking forward to some well deserved rest days here at base camp.

We would like to send our love to all of our family and friends who have been following our trip. Thank you all for staying tuned in, we gave it a great effort and had an amazing experience!
