The Spirit of Adventure
Shortly after completing the coveted, yet harrowing second ascent of Kilimanjaro's Breach Icicle, Wes Krause and Scott Fischer took pause. Relieved that they had survived the ascent of this vertical, detached pillar of ice, they also realized that they were hooked on adventure. Over the years they were chased by grizzly bears, rode avalanches, and made first ascents as they travelled across the globe. From this partnershp emerged Mountain Madness and the passion to share the challenge, beauty, and joy of climbing and trekking.
In the more than twenty-five years that have elapsed since those wild and crazy days, Mountain Madness co-founder Wes Krause has continued to operate our Kilimanjaro climbing and safari programs, which have achieved worldwide acclaim for their excellence. And we continue to provide a wide range of trips for the first timer, all the way to Mountain Everest -- and there is always something new.
This year, in addition to several new course locations across the globe, we're excited about some Alpine Traverses in our own backyard. The Bailey Range Traverse is the premier high route through the Olympic National Park, demanding an effort that both challenges and rewards those who strike out into its pristine wilderness. With the Torment-Forbidden Traverse, a Christine Boskoff favorite, we will climb with you along the leading edge of technical guiding terrain in the U.S. For trekkers, we have the mystique of our new trip in the remote Mustang area of Nepal and the Trans-Andean Trek & Climb in Bolivia.
And to take you to all those wild places, we are proud to unleash the skills and enthusiasm of our highly trained guides who continue to climb hard, explore new trekking locations, gain certifications, and hone their art in the Great Ranges of the world.
If you are new to Mountain Madness, please give us a call and we can help you find the perfect adventure. And for those of you that were with us in 2009, we thank you, and hope to see you again soon. Join us and be touched by the Spirit of Adventure.
Best Wishes,
Mark Gunlogson President
