BLEND LEARNING, CULTURE, BEAUTIFUL HIGH ALTITUDE CLIMBS, AND SOME AMAZING FOOD and you'll find that going back to school isn't all that bad after all! There is still work to be done, but at the end of these courses participants will both gain skills to join Mountain Madness on more difficult expeditions in both the Andes and Himalayas, as well as also the requisite high altitude experience needed to safely breech the 20,000 foot barrier and beyond.
In these programs we cover: • Snow climbing, ice axe positioning and arrest techniques • Snow and ice anchor selection, construction, and equalization • Ice climbing and crampon techniques • Prussiking and team crevasse rescue practice • Rappelling and rope management • Ascending fixed lines (location dependant) • Glaciology and crevasse pattern prediction • Navigation using maps, altimeters, and compasses • Roped glacier travel and route finding through crevassed areas • Mountain weather, alpine ecology and hazard assessment • Discussions on high altitude physiology and other expeditionary topics
