ACONCAGUA, THE ROOF OF SOUTH AMERICA, stands proudly at 22,841 feet and is the highest peak in the world outside of Asia. Climbing this beautiful mountain is a great way to experience the spectacular Andes and a challenging high-altitude expedition. Mountain Madness offers non-technical ascents on two routes—the Northwest Ridge and the Polish Traverse. Both are physically demanding adventures and involve all the complexities of expedition climbing. For more than 15 years, we have provided outstanding service to the highest peak in the western hemisphere and look forward to serving you on the route of your choice.
Northwest Ridge (Normal Route) The Northwest Ridge is a non-technical route and a good introduction to expedition-style climbing. We will acclimatize while stocking camps before making our summit assault. Following the philosophy of “carry high and sleep low” we establish a series of higher camps as we ascend Aconcagua.
Polish Traverse via Relinchos Valley, with a circumnavigation of the mountain The Polish Traverse offers an incredible high altitude climb of moderate difficulty for the mountaineer with intermediate climbing skills. This aesthetic route ascends the eastern aspect of the mountain and then traverses to the Normal Route, joining that route at about 20,300 feet. After our ascent, we descend into the Horcornes Valley and complete a circumnavigation of the mountain. The Polish Traverse is the preferred route for skilled climbers who are interested in climbing to the roof of South America via a slightly more strenuous route that offers more diversity. It’s also a great route for anyone who aspires to climb the more physically demanding Himalayan peaks.
