Dispatches

January 3, 2008

On the last day of 2007 five Mountain Madness Clients and two guides stood on the summit of the highest point in the western hemisphere. The route taken was the Polish Traverse which completes a circumnavigation of the mountain. This success is the result of the hard work of the climbers and their support staff. Thank you to all of you who helped to make Aconcagua 2007 an incredible summit.
Ciao, Geoff

The Mountain Madness office recieved a call today with great news- five of our team, plus the guides reached the summit! The team is now at Plaza de Mulas, almost completing their circumnavigation of the mountain after their fantastic way of bringing in the New Year! Geoff reports all in good health. More later. Cheers to the team!

After arriving in Argentina the group instantly began to gel. From the first moment we have all been laughing and having a good time. As we moved toward the mountain we enjoyed wonderful Andean vistas and an incredible carne asada dinner from the arrieros{muleteers}.

On the second day of trekking we caught our first glimpse of the mountain and what a sight! We stopped and took photos for a few long minutes before moving into our second camp. The next morning we were greated by an eye opening river crossing of ice cold glacier run off. This started a grueling day of uphill hiking to our base camp at Plaza Argentina. We have been here for a few days now and are beginning to acclimatize well for our ascent.

Yesterday we made a carry to Camp One in preparation for moving there tomorrow. Today we are enjoying incredible food in base camp to celebrate the holiday. Feliz Navidad from South America. Wish us Buena Suerte on our bid for the summit on New Years Day.
Adios, Geoff
