Vinson Massif Expedition - January 2-25, 2015

Thank you to our climber, Dave Creeden, for sharing his experience on our recent Vinson Massif expedition in Antarctica! 

The Vinson Massif is the highest mountain (16,050 feet) in Antarctica located in the Sentinel Range of the Ellsworth Mountains, lying at a latitude of little more than 78 degrees south.

MM guide Mark Ryman has traveled down to Punta Arenas, Chile to guide a Mountain Madness expedition with fellow guide Jacob Schmitz. The waiting game at Base Camp

Willie called from Vinson. They whole team is in base camp and playing the waiting game. They arrived yesterday and are hoping to be able to fly to Patriot Hills tomorrow. It is cloudy and the weather is variable right now. They had a long, hard day getting back to base camp with temperatures that started very cold, fluctuating to very hot, and then quite cold again. Three Seven Summit peaks reached on the same day by Mountain Madness teams!

What a day! We are happy for our teams that reached the summits of Vinson, Kilimanjaro, and Aconcagua all on January 18th. Details from our Kilimanjaro team forthcoming, but read our past blogs for the other two climbs that include the youngest person to summit the Seven Summits (including Carstensz).
