Climb On, Vashon!

Madness guide Lyra Pierotti takes a group of six-year-olds and their moms climbing in the outdoors for the first time...

Vashon Island is not exactly the epicenter of rock climbing in the Puget Sound. It is, in many ways, a bit of an ironic place for me to live--as a professional mountain guide. But it is beautiful, peaceful, and makes for an excellent home between all of my travels. For some reason, it just keeps working.

And it has worked even better since the Recess Lab Bouldering Wall opened.

Strolling through downtown a little over a year ago, I spied some brightly colored, oddly shaped blobs on a wall through the windows of a new fitness studio. I climbed up on the window sill to peer over the curtains, and there it was! A bouldering wall! Right here on Vashon!

Mixed Routes and Big Challenges on Dragontail

I met Dave B. in downtown Seattle on a particularly wet and rainy morning. His goal was to climb as big and challenging alpine ice and mixed routes as the Cascades had to offer.  The forecast for the western slopes of the Cascades was rain and snow for four out of five days. But Dave was open to objectives as long as they were big, challenging and icy!

It's that time again! The King 5 2014 Best Northwest Escapes has nominated Mountain Madness for the Best Rock Climbing Class! We would love your support in helping us reach #1 this year, and this year we are offering an awesome award to one lucky winner if we reach our goal.

Appreciating our Alumni with a Weekend of Rock

I saw the Mountain Madness office for the first time in 15 years this past spring. As the daughter of the company's late founder Scott Fischer, the mountains have always been an important part of my past. However, I have grown up fairly disconnected from the company itself. As soon as I walked into the office and met Mark G I knew that I was not about to let this place slip away again. A week later I started working in the office and I have since come to call Mountain Madness my home.

Squeezing In One More Day of Rock Climbing In the North Cascades.

I was able to squeeze one last alpine rock climbing trip into a great summer in the North Cascades. As the snow now descends upon the Cascades and the Pacific Northwesterners put a fresh coat of wax on their skis I was happy to get one last trip in on some alpine rock. Joe Sabek and I were able to enjoy the last day of summer in Washington Pass.
