Ken's High Five - Part Three, Glacier Peak

Glacier Peak, our objective this trip, is the most remote of Washington’s volcanoes. It is a place of beauty, solitude, and perfect kite flying weather. For us, the trip up Glacier Peak was also a chance to raise money for a worthy cause, and the opportunity for one member of our team to finally complete his goal, started in the 1980s, to climb all of the northwest volcanoes.

Ken's High Five - Part Two, Eldorado Peak

With beautiful weather conditions, great company, and a hefty amount of training in preparation, our three-day ascent of Eldorado Peak was one for the books. Eldorado Peak is in North Cascades National Park, surrounded by peak after iconic peak.

This rugged climb includes one of the most strenuous approach days in the cascades. A tree trunk river crossing, a steep, direct, climber’s trail, and boulder field scramble make this a classic Cascade climb.

Ken's High Five - Part One, Cascade Express

One peak, two peak, three peak, four… and five. Ken is going for it! When you're climbing three Cascade peaks in seven days, sometimes you look at your most recent summit and say “Huh, was I really on top of that two days ago…?”

Soaked and Stoked - A Family Climb of Mount Baker

Madness guide Mallorie Estenson shares a soggy but successful Mount Baker climb with a family and their friend. Interested in a climb with your family? Also check out Mount Adams and Ruth Mountain!

On Thursday, Arthur Herlitzka and I drove down the Mount Baker Highway, coffee in-hand and windshield wipers working. After a full month of trips in perfect weather, the ‘Pacific North Wet’ was finally living up to its reputation.

I thought to myself, “I hope everyone brought good rain gear.”
