A View Into Aconcagua-Vallecitos Combo

Aconcagua is the highest mountain in the western hemisphere and a major objective for individuals looking to tackle one of their first Seven Summit peaks. Traditionally the approach to climbing Aconcagua follows the philosophy of "climb high sleep low." This is a very effective approach but often requires multiple carries to the high camps of the mountain. This approach forces you to repeat many of the hikes over and over. Mountain Madness launched a new program this winter where the concept of "climb high sleep low" is diversified to eliminate the multiple carries on the same hikes and adds several other spectacular Argentinian peaks up to 5475m / 17949ft.

Final Aconcagua Team Takes Off!

Cerro Aconcagua, the highest summit of South America standing on Argentina's border at 22,841 feet / 6962 meters, is notorious for high winds, cold temperatures and generally trecherous conditions. Last season was arguably one of the most difficult season in the history of the mountain for those trecherous conditions, causing many groups to turn around without having reached the summit. This season, our teams took to the mountain with high hopes of greater success. Our January Normal Route team unfortunately encountered some of those high winds, but congratulations are in order to the team for pushing as far as only a couple hundred meters short of the summit before turning around. Our final team of the season has begun their expedition, and MM Guide Gaspar Navarrete checked in:

Patagonia Exploring

Mountain Madness was invited to attend the first ever "Adventure Travel Week" offered by the Adventure Travel Trade Association hosted in the Magellanes region of Chile. We are excited to refine our trek in Patagonia and take advantage of the stunning adventures the region has to offer. The trip is essentially a ten day tour of the best that the region has to offer in regards to adventure tourism. With an array of travel companies and a handful of travel writers, the group is travelling throughout the region participating in different experiences with the intention of drawing companies to the area.
