Guest Blog - A Climber's Journal of Aconcagua

I am off to Argentina today to join with 8 other climbers and 3 guides from Mountain Madness to attempt a summit of Aconcagua via the Normal Route.

The team is arriving in Mendoza, Argentina over the next few days and we will soon begin our expedition and ascent of the highest mountain in the western and southern hemispheres. Aconcagua (the stone sentinel) stands at an impressive 6962m (22,834 ft.) above sea level, one of the “7 Summits”. It is great training for the high altitude peaks in the Himalayas. [+] READ MORE

Summit Success on the Aconcagua Polish Traverse

MM Guide Gaspar Navarrete reports of a successful Aconcagua climb via the Polish Traverse! Derrick T. and Gaspar reached the summit despite fresh heavy snowfall and low temperatures.

Final Aconcagua Team Takes Off!

Cerro Aconcagua, the highest summit of South America standing on Argentina's border at 22,841 feet / 6962 meters, is notorious for high winds, cold temperatures and generally trecherous conditions. Last season was arguably one of the most difficult season in the history of the mountain for those trecherous conditions, causing many groups to turn around without having reached the summit. This season, our teams took to the mountain with high hopes of greater success. Our January Normal Route team unfortunately encountered some of those high winds, but congratulations are in order to the team for pushing as far as only a couple hundred meters short of the summit before turning around. Our final team of the season has begun their expedition, and MM Guide Gaspar Navarrete checked in:

Aconcagua Team Ready to Move Up

MM Guide Joshua Jarrin reported in that the Aconcagua Normal Route team is doing just fine, despite some winds and snow. They will be moving up on the mountain after completing some carries.
