Mountain Madness Climber

First-hand Account from Madness Client on Mt. Baker

Summer is off to a sunny start here in the Northwest! Multiple trips have been heading out each weekend to explore the mountains and learn new skills. Read on to get a first-hand glimpse into Mountain Madness climber Sarah Lee’s Mt. Baker experience.

Mountain Madness was very impressive, I felt that we learned a lot more during our Baker climb about mountaineering and camping in general, and the instruction felt personal and organic. My husband and I recently moved to the area and just got into alpine climbing/mountaineering. We of course watched the movie Everest last year and read Krakauer’s book, which is the first place we had heard of Mountain Madness. We wanted to climb with such a reputable, local company!

Robert was AMAZING from the get-go. We immediately felt comfortable with him being not just our guide but he seemed like an old friend showing us the ropes. He took into consideration that we had just summited Rainier the weekend prior and taught us new techniques instead of rehashing the basics! Our second guide Jacob was evidently new to guiding but he was not new to mountaineering. His knowledge of every single peak we could see from Mount Baker as well as climbing techniques was impressive. We were so fortunate that we ended up being the only two people on the climb and had two guides! We had the most incredible experience learning from Jacob the entire weekend and listening to all his climbing stories and goals. Very inspirational.

We lucked out and had brand new tents for the weekend which really came in handy because we had TERRIBLE weather for about 30 hours during our time at camp. Our guides cooked delicious food and even brought it to our tents in the pouring rain/snow/30 mph winds. Cannot wait to schedule our next climb with you guys!
