Summit of Peak 11,300 and other local action

We had a brief satellite phone call from Mark Ryman and Aaron Clifford this morning. On Sunday May 16th they summitted Alaska's Peak 11,300 via the SW Ridge (Grade V, 5.8, 60’ ice).   The climb took 19 hrs and they camped on the summit before doing the standard descent the following day. Congrats to them for the send!

Mark said they got some amazing video and still photographs from their climb, so stay tuned!  He and Aaron have been tent bound since getting off the mountain as the Alaska Range has seen some pretty bad weather this week.  It doesn't appear like Dylan Taylor and team will have any footprints to follow when they reach the peak on Monday!

Pablo Puruncajas has been in the Alaska Range as well. Unfortunately, his team exhausted their food, fuel and time while waiting out bad weather and high winds at the 17,000 ft camp on Denali's West Buttress.  Pablo returns to the North Cascades to gorgeous weather and a trip to Mt Baker with David Gilliland.

Memorial Day really kicks off our local season and it will prove to be a busy one. Are confirmed trips are: a 6-day Glacier Mountaineering Course on Mt Baker, a 13-day Alpine Leadership Course, an Intro to Mountaineering Course on Silver Star, Basic Rock and Intermediate Rock w/ Rock Rescue, and a complete alpine rock traverse of the Liberty Bell Group at Washington Pass.
