Summit of Peak 11,300 and other local action

We had a brief satel­lite phone call from Mark Ryman and Aaron Clif­ford this morn­ing. On Sun­day May 16^th they sum­mit­ted Alaska’s Peak 11,300 via the SW Ridge (Grade V, 5.8, 60’ ice). The climb took 19 hrs and they camped on the sum­mit before doing the stan­dard descent the fol­low­ing day. Con­grats to them for the send!

Mark said they got some amaz­ing video and still pho­tographs from their climb, so stay tuned! He and Aaron have been tent bound since get­ting off the moun­tain as the Alas­ka Range has seen some pret­ty bad weath­er this week. It does­n’t appear like Dylan Tay­lor and team will have any foot­prints to fol­low when they reach the peak on Monday!

Pablo Purun­ca­jas has been in the Alas­ka Range as well. Unfor­tu­nate­ly, his team exhaust­ed their food, fuel and time while wait­ing out bad weath­er and high winds at the 17,000 ft camp on Denal­i’s West But­tress. Pablo returns to the North Cas­cades to gor­geous weath­er and a trip to Mt Bak­er with David Gilliland. 

Memo­r­i­al Day real­ly kicks off our local sea­son and it will prove to be a busy one. Are con­firmed trips are: a 6‑day Glac­i­er Moun­taineer­ing Course on Mt Bak­er, a 13-day Alpine Lead­er­ship Course, an Intro to Moun­taineer­ing Course on Sil­ver Star, Basic Rock and Inter­me­di­ate Rock w/​Rock Res­cue, and a com­plete alpine rock tra­verse of the Lib­er­ty Bell Group at Wash­ing­ton Pass.
