MM Team Summits Mt. Dickey

We got a brief message from Dave Ahrens this morning from the Alaska Range. He and the May 2 Ruth Gorge Expedition team summited Mt Dickey via the West Face yesterday! Congrats to them! With Dave’s typical understatement and humility, he said it was one of his top three wallow fests” ever (ie: deep snow and trailbreaking). Coming from someone who has guided the complete Denali Traverse and Denali’s West Buttress in the same season (a first?), this is probably saying a lot. We wonder what the top wallow fest” was?

Veteran guide and office staff extraordinaire, Mark Ryman, and new MM guide Aaron Clifford flew into the Alaskan Range yesterday as well. Their goal is the ultra classic SW Ridge of Peak 11,300. Mark’s aerial photos sent via iPhone confirmed the snowy conditions but clearing weather. Hopefully we’ll get an update from them later in the week. The timing of this trip is perfect for our next AK trip, as MM guide Dylan Taylor is on deck to attempt 11,300 with the strong team of Mark Johncox and Peter Webb on May 17th. Dylan and Mark have climbed the Mooses Tooth together, and Peter Webb has been on a number of MM trips in the North Cascades — Forbidden Peak, Mt Baker — as well as attempted Alaska’s remote Mt Fairweather.

Stay tuned for notes from the Alaska Range!
