K2 rescuer Pemba Gyalje Sherpa to lead MM Island Peak and Khumbu Icefall extension to Camp 2 on Everest

We are pleased to have Pem­ba join us again in Nepal for our climbs and Ever­est Base Camp Treks in the Ever­est region. In ear­ly April he will be lead­ing our Island Peak Expe­di­ton (view video clip) fol­lowed by the Khum­bu Ice­fall Exten­stion to Camp 2.

Pem­ba has been guid­ing on the world’s tallest moun­tains for over fif­teen years, and has seen of the sum­mits of Ama Dablam, Ever­est, Cho-Oyu, and K2. He is one of the few guides from Nepal to pur­sue guide cer­ti­fi­ca­tion with the Nepal Nation­al Moun­tain Guide Asso­ci­a­tion, which under the super­vi­sion under Inter­na­tion­al Fed­er­a­tion of Moun­tain Guide Asso­ci­a­tion (IFM­GA) rep­re­sents the inter­na­tion­al­ly rec­og­nized stan­dard for pro­fes­sion­al moun­tain guides.

In addi­tion to his exten­sive high-alti­tude climb­ing expe­ri­ence, Pem­ba has par­tic­i­pat­ed in many suc­cess­ful search and res­cue mis­sions around the world. He was the recip­i­ent of the Amer­i­can Alpine Club’s David A. Sowles Memo­r­i­al Award in 2009, and was recent­ly named the Best Adven­tur­er of the Year 2008 by the Nation­al Geo­graph­ic Adven­ture Soci­ety for his hero­ism as part of res­cue mis­sion on K2.
