Everest Base Camp Trekker Becky Bacheller Reports From Dingboche!

A rest day is not actually a “rest day” but a day where we get to wake up 1/2 hour later and we don't have to pack up our bags! This was so surprising to everyone that the Sherpas still said 6:30 when they woke us up instead of 7.

Our cultural activity for the morning was going out to the potato fields behind the guesthouse and asking questions of the Sherpa family while they tried to sort them. They buried them in the ground to store them after harvest so they could replant them.

We took a relatively gradual hike after breakfast which means no stairs to crawl up and did about 700 feet in maybe two hours to a tea house in Bibre.

We encountered our first snow which I poked with my beloved trekking pole and then Glenn and Richard continued their hike further while everyone else turned back. Deana tried to keep morale high by having us all sing American Pie.

We reached 15,000 feet today. Tomorrow we head out for Lobuche at our regular time.
