Chola, an infrequently climbed peak is located in western Sichuan Province, in the Ganzi Tibetan Prefecture, near the eastern Tibet border. After spending a day rock climbing near Chengdu, at the birthplace of Taoism, we travel into the mountains. Along the way we enter this Buddhist dominated mountain region. Before we enter the mountains we visit ancient monasteries and meet a well-known Lama, who will bless our travels.
We then approach the mountain from Xinlu Lake. Our route follows the east glacier to camp 1 at 5,000 meters. From there ascend a steep slope to the right of a sub-peak marked as 5290 meters on our map. From our camp 2 at 5450 meters on a large snow plateau, we follow the North Slope to the summit. The last 100 meters to the summit is along an airy, exciting ridgeline.
