Follow the Legendary Footpath of the Inca in the Andes

Join us on this porter-sup­port­ed trek to one of South Amer­i­ca’s most inter­est­ing cul­tur­al sites. Machu Pic­chu is sit­u­at­ed at an alti­tude of 8,200 feet / 2499 meters in the Urubam­ba Riv­er Val­ley of Peru­vian Andes. Jun­gle growth cov­ered the desert­ed city for years and as a result it escaped notice by the Span­ish conquistadors.

Per­mits are lim­it­ed! In an effort to reduce impact the Peru­vian gov­ern­ment has low­ered the num­ber of peo­ple allowed on the trail. For this rea­son it is impor­tant that you make reser­va­tions as far in advance as pos­si­ble to ensure your spot.

Itinerary

Flight Information

The total num­ber of days for your trip includes all trav­el to and from your des­ti­na­tion, with some excep­tions. For this trip you will need to arrive in Lima either one Day 1 of the itin­er­ary and overnight in Lima; alter­na­tive­ly, you can arrive ear­ly morn­ing on Day 2, no lat­er than 10:00 am ear­ly morn­ing on Day 2 you will need to arrange a flight to Cus­co from Lima; typ­i­cal­ly your flight from Lima to Cus­co will be between 6 – 10 am the morn­ing of Day 2.

Your return flight home will be the sec­ond to last day on the dates and prices page. The trip itin­er­ary is based on the assump­tion that this will be an overnight flight home depart­ing from Lima, Peru in the late evening some­time after 8 pm. It may be pos­si­ble for you to enjoy Lima’s fine muse­ums before your flight home in the evening if you depart from Cus­co in the ear­ly morning.

Trekking involves 4-5 hours of walking per day with an elevation gain of up to 1,000 feet / 305 meters. You should be in good physical shape and participating in 3-4, 1-hour minimum cardiovascular workouts per week before the trek. Participants are encouraged to walk several hours or more a week leading up to the trek.
